During 2009, Bupa donated £2.6 million to The Bupa Foundation, an independent charity
that supports medical research through grants and awards. At its annual awards ceremony, held in London on 19 November, Bupa Chairman Lord Sandy Leitch presented £105,000 in
prize money on behalf of the Foundation to seven winning teams.
The awards recognise excellence in clinical research and healthcare in seven categories: care; clinical excellence; communication; epidemiology; health at work; patient safety and research.
Bupa Group Medical Director Dr Andrew Vallance-Owen, Deputy Chairman of the Bupa Foundation, said: “The Bupa Foundation Awards recognise and celebrate people for their
outstanding achievement and commitment to improving healthcare. The work of this year’s
award winners is making a real difference to people’s lives.”
The seven award-winning projects each received £15,000 in recognition of their original
work, to financially support further studies or pilot work in a new direction.
