Sanitas keeping safety in spotlight

Pioneering patient safety is a Bupa priority and Sanitas is reinforcing its commitment to delivering the highest possible standards for its customers with the introduction of a new reporting system.

The online Drug Incident Reporting System can be used to examine incidents and inform plans to prevent them happening again. It has been launched in Sanitas Hospital in La Moraleja and Sanitas Hospital in La Zarzuela, and will be rolled out to Hospital de Manises.

The system is based on the Medication Error Reporting Programme used by the Institute for Safe Medication Practices - the US-based non-profit organisation recognised as the world's leading resource for accurate medication safety information.

It is the latest in a series of steps by Sanitas to improve patient safety across the business and build its reputation as a Spanish leader in healthcare quality.

As part of the Sanitas 'Strategic Plan for Patient Safety', a Clinical Safety Committee has been established to improve healthcare quality and, last year, the WHO (World Health Organisation) surgical safety checklist was launched in three Sanitas hospitals.

The checklist is part of WHO's global drive to make to make surgery safer by cutting risks and reducing complications.

Sanitas' Medical Director Luis Delgado, said: "Our strategic plan is a great example of working together to focus on this incredibly important aspect of our business."
