Bupa International wins hat trick of Queen's Awards

We are delighted to have won a Queen's Award for Enterprise for our continued substantial growth in overseas earnings and commercial success.

This is the third time Bupa International has won a Queen's Award for outstanding achievement in international trade, having been a previous winner in 1999 and 2005.

The Queen's Awards for Enterprise are the UK's most prestigious accolades for business performance, and recognise and reward outstanding achievement. They are made each year by Her Majesty the Queen, on the recommendation of an advisory committee that includes representatives of Government, industry and commerce, and trade unions.

Alistair How, managing director said: "To win this award for a third time in 11 years is outstanding. We now look after the health of more than 800,000 people in 190 countries almost treble the number of customers we had in 2005."

"It's a huge challenge to meet the health insurance needs of people scattered all over the world and so it's fantastic that our achievements have been recognised in this way. We are there for people and their families for everything from routine appointments with their local doctor, to heart bypass operations, right through to emergency evacuations from potentially life threatening and dangerous situations.

For example, we recently helped a customer who was involved in a severe accident at an airport in the Bahamas, evacuating him by air ambulance to the nearest centre of medical excellence in Miami for emergency treatment."

"Whether you are a Chinese national living in the Czech Republic, or an Australian living in Alaska, we can meet your healthcare needs. We continue to look for new market opportunities - our successful launch in Russia last year is a good example of us bringing our healthcare expertise to expatriates in new territories."
