10% portfolio growth in 2009

Despite the credit crunch, lack of optimism and signs of stagnation in the travel industry, ihi Bupa Travel had a very good year in 2009. There was a total increase of 10.4% to the Travel portfolio compared to 2008.

In the individual market, the Annual Travel product had a fantastic year with a portfolio increase of 22%. The Single Trip product also did well, and combined the individual travel business showed very good profitability.

The corporate book of business grew with more than 70 new accounts. At the same time, we secured renewal of most of our trusted accounts. This resulted in a revenue growth of 7% in the corporate segment.

Following a review of the business performance, and due to the difficulty getting the Student Travel product approved in the US, we made a decision by the end of 2009 to withdraw from the Student Travel market.

Even if 2009 was a challenging year for us all, we know that the ihi Bupa Travel clients appreciate the value and benefits they get with us. We will therefore continuously strive to provide the best travel insurance products and services available in the market, and we look forward to an exciting 2010!
